Creative Practice Blog #6
October 6th, 2024
Hello everyone! As a reminder, I am focusing on the theme of community. This week, I decided to explore this theme using a new medium: digital illustration.
I was inspired by a TikTok trend where people take ordinary paintings or photographs and transform them by drawing over the images to give them a Halloween twist. Wanting to try this ourselves, we found a website that allowed us to draw on a photo simultaneously. so, we found a regular image of a neighborhood and filling it with all sorts of spooky and silly Halloween-themed drawings.
What truly embodies the theme of community here isn’t the final product, but rather the collaborative experience between my friend and me. Community is more than a group of people who come together, but rather the relationship between them. And partaking in this activity truly strengthened our bond. We were able to spend quality time together laughing, sharing drama, and being creative. I feel it's small moments like these that are key to building a tight knit community.
The combination of trying to make the painting silly and doing it with my best friend made this activity super fun and stress free. Often when I paint, I get so caught up in making it "perfect" that by the end, I feel exhausted. However, this experience was refreshing because my friend did not let me feel any of those pressures. So, by the end, I was filled with joy and the energy to keep creating!
